Step Into Their Shoes Monument

a. You will write ten journal entries placing yourself in the Civil War. These journals should be “spaced” in the timeline of the Civil War and provide a glimpse into the entire story of the war. I want to know what you are thinking and how you would react under the pressure of the war.
• You are writing as if you are one of the main characters so be sure to use first person point of view.
• Use text to describe the events and provide information about your story line.
b. Your journal should be as realistic as possible.
c. Create a cover that reflects the time period chronicled in the novel. Use your creative thinking to design it. Choose an appropriate font that looks like historical handwriting or write it legibly using black ink or pencil.
d. As a tribute to your story of the Civil War, you must design a monument honoring the main character in your story.
a. Include:
• the thoughts behind why you designed it the way you did,
• what you would want it to be constructed of,
• where you would want your monument to be displayed and why you chose the area,
• and finally a sketch/drawing of your monument.
b. Be prepared to present your monument to the class.

Remember it is the effort not the artistic ability that counts!
